I'm in the process of making the reviews longer and adding more of them.

Crimson Thorn
ctpurif.jpg
Purification

AWSOME CD!!!  This is one of the best death metal cds I've listened to.  Unreal vocals, grinding guitars, what more could you ask for.  All 12 tracks are great.  It's more like the newer sounding deathmetal bands, but is very good.  Everyone in the band does vocals giving it a huge sound.  Most songs are longer than the average death metal cd because Crimon Thorn is a really talented band and writes complex songs.  They also have songs where it will be slow(organ, choir, clean) in the begining and jump right out at you with this huge wall of skillful noise.  I'd give it a 9.8.

Napalm Death

Utopia Banished

This is one of my favorite Napalm cds.  It's really similar to the ones around its time like Harmony Corruption and Death by Manipulation.  Recorded in 1992 it really has that sound of the early 90s death/grind.  It is not as loud as the newer death/grind cds out there, but that is great in a band.  It shows they didn't sell out.  The guitars sound great, not turned up too loud or over distorted.  The drums are monsterous and Barney's vocals are... well... Barney's, the best.  For those who don't know he does a good low growl, but it's not too unearthly sounding, you can hear what he is saying if you listen.  Overall it's really good grind/death with no frills, meaning great production, but I like that.  9.5 out of 10

Mortification

Live Without Fear

Great cd.  Pure thrash metal.  Great solos.  Played some great songs like New Beginings.  It's not as hard as Slayer or Kreator by far.  Just a plain great thrash metal cd.  I think of this cd as easy listening.  The riffs are sorta catchy.  The guitars sound treblely.  The drums are good, but not that complicated.  The vocals are not very harsh sounding, but Steve Rowe is not singing either.  9 out of 10 (pick one up at blast beats for $2, look in links page)

Death by Manipulation

This is a really good cd, one of my favorites.  Similar to Harmony Corruption... it was recorded in 1991.  Not the greatest production but I like it like that.  grind/death of the early 90s... good stuff.  Look at the Utopia Banished review for more info on the death/grind of the early  90's.  The cd's of this time were not overly editted and they were not just noise... they were writen really well.  9.3 out of 10

Extol

Burial

If you like Extol you'd love this cd.  Odd style of death/black metal makes Extol unique.  Dualing guitars are awsome.  Guitars have alot of grind in them, but  they are very rhythemic and less hard at times.  When they are not grinding they are very interesting but complicated.  The vocals are 90% high screams but sometimes one guy is singing, it's good though.  The drums have alot of double bass in them but don't sound too hard.  8.9 out of 10.

Biohazard

Urban Discipline

Not death/thrash/grind, but is a fairly good cd for a more mainstream band.  Don't worry it's not nu-metal.  The vocals are rappy on most of their other cds, but this one has like a sound similar to hatebreed.  There is deffinately some good guitar riffs in the cd.  There is also alot of solos and good drumming.  I'm not really into the cd that much anymore, but it's still good and it USED to be my favorite cd.  8.4 out of 10

Napalm Death

Enemy of the Music Buiness

One of Napalms newist cds 2002.  It's a good cd, aren't all Napalm cds.  Unlike the ones of the early 90s, this cd was produced really well.  I don't like it like that, but it's still a good cd, just not my favorite.  The guitars and everything jump right out of your stereo, unlike the earlier Napalm cds.  The sound quality is as good as a... uh nu-metal cd, I don't really like that but whatever.  The guitars have tons and tons of distortion.  The songs are really aggressive, it almost reminds me of scum but more skilled and newer.  If you like Napalm...or not get the cd you will like it.  9.1 out of 10.

Mortification
silverchord.jpg
The Silver Cord is Severed

I don't know... I thought this cd sucked.  It wasn't death or thrash like mortys other cds.  It's ok I guess.  It's like power metal, but I don't know... it seemed really week.  There was a couple of cool riffs and solos, but besides that it was week.  This cd is nothing like the old Mortification at all.  The vocals are some sort of half growls, the guitars are really lame, and the drums... eh they're ok, not too great though.  I'd give it a 6.7 out of 10 (what's up with the lame cover art... even mine is better)

Mortification

Mortification/Scrolls of the Megaloth

Great cds.  Especially for the price of one.  Mortification is one of my favorite cds of all time.  Great death metal.  Scrolls is also great.  Great death metal with more grind in it and bassy vocals.  If you like Napalm Death, Death, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Corpse, etc. you will love both of these cds.  Scrolls is one of the hardest cds I've heard... it is true grind and nothing else except a little bit of death metal,  it is HARD.  Mortification is not quite as hard as scrolls but has killer gutiar riffs... I mean KILLER.  If you don't have either of these cds GO OUT AND GET THEM NOW.  The vocals are unearthly on both cds, Jayson Sherlock... my favorite drummer is one both cds and plays great double bass and he rolls off of everything.  The gutiars... just awsome...awsome.  9.9 out of 10(nothing gets a ten)

metanoia
metanoiadont.jpg
Don't Walk Dead

Good cd, not my favorite.  Metanoia combines alot of different styles of music in their cds.  Overall it's a death metal cd only each track sounds different.  The band might be broken up now.  I talked to their bassist Lisa Spud.  She was kicked out or something and is no longer with Steve the guitarist.  This cd is really death metal with a different approach in each song.  This was good for some songs, not for others.  The guitar/bass sound good (Gibson '?? V, Marshall quads w/straight power, and a metalzone).  The drumms are also good... a few beats are really simple though.  Vocals are good except when one of them sings.  They had a choir in one of the songs at the end and that sounded really dark and cool... it is a good cd.  8.9 out of 10

Extol
extolmesmerised.jpg
Mesmerized EP

Only 6 songs.  3 are wierd industrial remixes of old songs.  Love the first two songs thought. The third is not bad either.  I really don't know about the industrial remixes... I'm not to into that as you can see in my Rammstein reveiw. The first 3 are like the Extol Burial cd (check review).   6.9 out of ten

Moritification
mortenvideon.jpg
En Vidion

Cool tape.  Pretty ghetto at times.  Those funky lines go crazy.  Really cool video.  18 min song/video in the begining.  Overall history up until the video with clips of videos and live shows.  It also has full length songs live, some from Live Without Fear.  Metanoia has a video at the end.  It's all pretty cool.

Time to Die

Good cd.  Different styles like Don't Walk Dead.  I really think 2 off the songs on the cd are really really cool.  The rest are ok. 8.7 out of 10

Mortification

Break the Curse 1990

Very bad ass cd.  Has that old death/thrash/grind sound to it.  It's Mortification's first cd and one of their best and my favorites.  Many people agree with me on that one.  9.7 out of 10

Cybergrind
cyber.jpg
Transcend

Ex-Mortification guitarist fronts Cybergrind.  CD is like Morty's old school grind.  Some people bash this cd.  I think it's pretty cool.  Vocals are slitely weak.  Think of Napalm but not as good.  Good grind.  8.3 out of 10

Napalm Death
napalmscum.jpg
Scum

Napalm's first cd.  Really old... from the eighties or something.  Very early grind cd.  A little different from todays grind but still pretty good.  Songs are sorta punk like but also grind.  Duh that's how early grind was like.  There's 28 songs on the cd, but most of them are from 4 seconds long to a minute.  I think there are some good songs on the cd. I'd give it an 8.6 because it is a legendary grind cd and many people want this cd (don't know why...haha).

Drowning in Flesh

Death metal from Panama.  I got an email fro Phil too.  That's pretty cool.  It's a very good cd.  I wish they would turn the guitars up a little more, but South American death metal is like that.  There is only songs I think. 8.6 out of 10

Ministros del Santuario

Antidiabolical Inquisition

I couldn't find a larger pic, sorry.  Also from Panama.  12 songs.  This is a really good cd... really good.  great guitars and a good growl.  Think of hardcore vocals, only turned down a few notches.  Again, turn up the guitars.
9.2 out of 10.

RAMMSTEIN
ramm.gif
Der Musikalische Staub

This cd SUCKS.  Don't get it.  It's just a bunch of remixes.  It's all tecno and really sucks.  There is practically no metal is this cd at all.  I don't like rammstein that much anyway.  2.9 out of 10 and that's being generous.
